Sadly, a bad fall in 2012 has left me with a mobility problem, and being diagnosed with prostate cancer the same year hasn't helped, but I get out and about with my trusty walking stick as much as I can, take each day as it comes and try to keep looking on the bright(er) side of life. Many of my poems reflect the need to nurture a positive-thinking mindset whatever life throws at us.

Hi folks, from London UK

Now, not surprisingly, several regular readers have asked why I changed the title to my poetry trilogy. I am glad they seem much happier with the new title, though, as am I.

I have to confess that I struggle with titles these days, even more so than in the past, less because of health issues than from having written so many poems. At the time, Misnomer seemed a good title, but after a few days, I realised that it could be easily misconstrued, so finally came up with An Empathy with Nature. I hope most readers will be happy with that, especially as I was up until nearly midnight last night, tinkering with the original poems.

One reader recently emailed to say, “I enjoy some of your poems, but hope you have no illusions about your contribution to English poetry. I’m afraid you are small fry compared with the likes of Shelley, Wordsworth, Blake etc.”

Well, small fry or not, the best compliment a poet can be paid is to be read; any comments are a bonus. Mostly, I write poetry to help me through the slings and arrows of old age; if it provides readers with food for thought, better still, and if it helps them to continue nurturing a positive-thinking mindset, so much the better.

So, no, I am under no illusions about my standing as a poet, and would not dare compare my work with any of the greats, but all the while I have a poem in my head, you can be sure I will see it through and publish it here.

I daresay I will continue to struggle with titles, but nothing much comes easy in life especially in your upper 70’s, so… no worries.😉

Mind you, it is a worry that freedom of expression appears to be significantly less free across the landscape of what purports to be a progressive 21st century...

Do feel free to explore the blog archives and all comments are welcome at rogertab@aol.com, but be sure to enter ‘Poetry’ in the subject field; I always try to replay within a week or so.

Meanwhile…

Back with another poem soon, this time about rain… of which we have seen the least this summer in about 50 years across parts of Europe, including the UK; global warming appears to be accelerating sooner than even the experts have predicted. Hopefully, the powers that we will not only start taking it more seriously, but also start putting more of our money where their rhetoric excels…

Yes, well, Hope springs eternal…😉

Take care, stay safe and be sure to keep mind-body-spirit in fine fettle,

Hugs,

Roger
